Valsetz is a former logging town located in the Coast Range mountains of Oregon. It was founded in the early 1900s by the Valsetz Lumber Company, which operated a sawmill in the area. The town was home to workers and their families, with amenities such as a company store, school, and post office.
However, in the 1980s, the sawmill closed down and the town was abandoned. Today, all that remains of Valsetz are ruins and remnants of the once-thriving community. The area is now part of the Siuslaw National Forest and is popular for hiking and exploring the ghost town.
Visitors can see the foundation of the old schoolhouse, the company store, and other buildings that have been reclaimed by nature. The town's history is preserved in photos and artifacts at the nearby Alsea Community Center.
While Valsetz is no longer a bustling town, it remains a fascinating destination for those interested in Oregon's logging history and exploring abandoned places.
